Love you to the Moon Father’s Day mini sessions – Family Photographer Pretoria
As I walked up to one of the dads to introduce myself, it wasn’t difficult to see from the look on his face that this was the last place he wanted to be… And although the walk from the car to the photo session location was quite short, it seemed to take an eternity as he slowly put one foot in front of the other, head down, wondering what he had done to deserve such a punishment.
I could see he was quite embarrassed and didn’t want to be here… and it made me wonder about his past experience with a photographer. I assured him it will be quick and painless and that it would be over before he knew it. And after 15 minutes of what I could tell was dad having fun with his kiddos, the session was over. Dad looked up at me in awe and although I could see the relief on his face, he was definitely not the same person he was when he first arrived. And as we walked back to the car, he said that the session wasn’t that bad and definitely not what he expected.
This wasn’t the experience with all the dads but it does tend to happen with new clients. And as long as you keep the session fun and the focus on everything but the photographer, then you can usually capture some great shots without making dad feel awkward.
Love you to the Moon was about the sun, the moon and the stars… and everything in between. The dads and kiddos made constellations out of marshmallows and tooth picks and then got to see some constellations through a telescope and on a map. We had start dust, moon rocks, a home-made nebula and a ‘make a wish on a star’ jar.
It was actually pretty awesome and the dads (including the newbies) had fun. Thanks to all the dads for being so brave and Happy Father’s Day!
